What are Chakras?
Chakras means โwheelโ - which refers to the energy centers in your body thought to be spinning disks of energy that should stay โopenโ and aligned, as they correspond to specific parts of the nervous system, major organs and other internal organs. The seven major chakras run from the base of your spine to the top of your head. If these energy centers get blocked, you may experience physical or emotional symptoms related to a particular chakra center.
There are many ways to understanding this unique energy system and the characteristics that cause the main issues we experience that cause our system to malfunction. These centers are either balanced, overactive or underactive and they may even cause physical dysfunctions or illnesses. Each chakra also has addictions that can also bring your attention to an imbalanced chakra. Let me help you restore the energy that has been depleted over the years. ROOT CHAKRA - This chakra is also known as the Base Chakra, or the First chakra.
The prime functions are centered around grounding and survival. This chakra has much to do with your concerns around the structure, order and the foundation in your life. The life lessons are on the material world. Many people worry about how they will provide for their family if something were to happen, such as a loss of a job or death, or what if you lose a partner from a break-up or death. There is anxiety, stress and worry of how you would live without them because they were part of your foundation, your life, your energy.
SACRAL CHAKRA - This is the second chakra. The prime functions for this chakra are desire, pleasures, sexuality, procreation, relationships and emotions. Life lessons for this can be from guilt, money, prosperity, sex, power and control. This chakra has to do with feelings and empathy. Having honor for one another. Being able to express your needs both emotionally and sexually. Some of the addictions related to this chakra are sugar, alcohol and relationships.
SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA - This chakra is also known as the Power Center and the third chakra. The prime functions are energy and vitality, storage for self/worldly judgements, opinions, and beliefs. This chakra is about honoring one's self. It is the emotional center for worries such as, how to operate in school, society and the world. Some of the common addictions found in the imbalance of this chakra can be caffeine, starches, compulsive cleaning and extreme obsessive attention to detail.
Heart Chakra - This is the fourth chakra or Dorsel Center. The prime functions of this center is balance, love, and connection. It wants to bring forth and spread compassion, love and harmony. Love is Divine Power. Love is an emotion that can change everything. Love is a feeling not a word. It is a sensation that is sent throughout our energy when the intention is pure. We all want to be loved or be able to love. Love does not have to be a romantic feeling. We all have love for our friends, family and we should all have love for mankind. Some addictions that have been found with the imbalance of this chakra are marijuana, cigarettes, obsessive need for caretaking, compulsive relationships and constant cravings for chocolate and sugar.
Throat Chakra - This is the fifth chakra also known as the Willpower Chakra. The prime functions of this center is communication, speaking your truth and creativity. This chakra is link to the sacrament of confession. This sacrament is a catholic tradition for atoning for any past mistakes or decisions, a way to clean the slate and begin again. However other cultures do have their own traditions to making amends. When we choose to align ourselves with our Divine plan, we begin to live and speak our own truth. Some previously mentioned addictions apply here as well like marijuana and cigarettes, others are runners high and nasal inhalants.
Brow Chakra - This is the sixth chakra also known as the Third Eye Chakra. The prime function for this chakra is intuition and understanding. We want to seek only the truth and be able to see beyond the five body senses. Mugwort is a great incense to use to focus on this chakra and frankincense or clary sage are great essential oils. Certain eye exercises are perfect for healing and bringing balance.
Crown Chakra - This is the last of the major chakras. This is chakra seven known also as the Wisdom Chakra. The prime functions for this chakra is inner knowing and service. This is the source of Divine Awareness. This is where we connect with home. We should all live in the present moment. The sacrament this is linked to is the last rites to prepare us for our journey home.
There are 114 chakras in the human body. These are split into the 7 major chakras, 21 minor chakras and 86 micro chakras.
There are many modalities to help realign these chakras and bring balance to the body and strengthen it. This can take time because there can be emotional trauma that is sensitive and may require some time to break through to heal and make an easier transition for letting it all go. Be patient and allow yourself the time to mend. It is a process of rebuilding what was broken by the words, actions of others, traumas or grief.
